The Blues Guitar

I always enjoy to back to the blues. I recorded 7 pratising examples of the blues guitar improvisations. I played over 7 different keys mostly in slow tempo. It was really interesting journey and I learned a lot. This is also great practising method to play over different keys and every time record it and analyse. Even if you play different kind of music the blues will help you understand guitar and your guitar...

Pat Martino

Pat Martino is one of my jazz guitar masters. I like his composition style and phrasing and he inspire me all the time. I’m very happy that next few months I will study jazz guitar with the Pat Martino course. I believe that this will change my music forever:) I really recommend Pat Martino music for everyone who is interested in jazz. “As an improviser you need to experience the moment – and that includes everything in the moment. Observe the people around you – the bandleader, the bartender – what they wear, how they deal with people, the simple continuity of their presence. As you do that you’ll see how you affect them, and you’ll play and act accordingly. You need to study the reality of the moment, and that is very rarely about studying modes and intervals.” – Pat...

Ryan Larkin – Walking Score

The “Walking” is the oscar nominated animation created by Ryan Larkin. Wiki page: Walking This video contains the new soundtrack which I composed during the International Film Music Festival “Transatlantyk” 2011. Video copyright: National Film Board of Canada. Check also the oryginal version on the NFB: https://youtu.be/XAMtmK7ObkA This composition was apperciated by famous film composers George S. Clinton and Peter Golub. They liked it a lot but one of them said (I don’t remember which one;) that it is not possible to write it down, because of way it was played to fit the picture. Yeah… so I transcribed it;) Download PDF:...

A Foggy Day Behind the Wall

This is experimental jazz composition based on atonal voices. Very different from my other composed music… but really not so far;) The chorus is based on the bass line above: 2 x 9 bars. Second part is a bit modified. I attach also trascription of the 2 first choruses. This is great excercise to transcribe own improvisations. You learn a lot from it: one is ear traning and second reason to do it is better understanding what we play. Good jazz player can play music from his subconscious and sometimes we can catch it here and explore. If you play long improvisation you don’t have to transcribe all solo, sometimes one or few choruses is enough. You don’t have to transcribe everything 1:1. The goal is to keep the solo meaning. Download and print transcribed solo and listen to it with the score. You will see much more and you will find also references to some phrases in the later...

To czego chciałbym Ciebie nauczyć, to odpowiednie podejście do improwizacji, komponowania struktury solówki, tworzenia opowieści. Marek Jakubowicz – gitarzysta, kompozytor, producent. Ukończył zaawansowaną improwizację jazzową w Berklee College of Music.
