The Blues Guitar

I always enjoy to back to the blues. I recorded 7 pratising examples of the blues guitar improvisations. I played over 7 different keys mostly in slow tempo. It was really interesting journey and I learned a lot. This is also great practising method to play over different keys and every time record it and analyse. Even if you play different kind of music the blues will help you understand guitar and your guitar...

Pat Martino

Pat Martino is one of my jazz guitar masters. I like his composition style and phrasing and he inspire me all the time. I’m very happy that next few months I will study jazz guitar with the Pat Martino course. I believe that this will change my music forever:) I really recommend Pat Martino music for everyone who is interested in jazz. “As an improviser you need to experience the moment – and that includes everything in the moment. Observe the people around you – the bandleader, the bartender – what they wear, how they deal with people, the simple continuity of their presence. As you do that you’ll see how you affect them, and you’ll play and act accordingly. You need to study the reality of the moment, and that is very rarely about studying modes and intervals.” – Pat...

A Foggy Day Behind the Wall

This is experimental jazz composition based on atonal voices. Very different from my other composed music… but really not so far;) The chorus is based on the bass line above: 2 x 9 bars. Second part is a bit modified. I attach also trascription of the 2 first choruses. This is great excercise to transcribe own improvisations. You learn a lot from it: one is ear traning and second reason to do it is better understanding what we play. Good jazz player can play music from his subconscious and sometimes we can catch it here and explore. If you play long improvisation you don’t have to transcribe all solo, sometimes one or few choruses is enough. You don’t have to transcribe everything 1:1. The goal is to keep the solo meaning. Download and print transcribed solo and listen to it with the score. You will see much more and you will find also references to some phrases in the later...

Radio interview & Unobtainum

Interview recording Trans Jazz Fair – Radio Malbork – 2016-11-02 Presenter: Patryk Wiatr Guests: Unobtainum Duo: Marek Jakubowicz, Michał Ruksza (0:12) Patryk Wiatr – It’s Wednesday, 7 pm, thus, almost “as always”, dear listeners, welcome to another Trans Jazz Fair program on Radio Malbork. The phrase ‘almost as always’ may sound mysterious and unprofessional, but it’s not that important here.. I’m simply so excited at the moment with so many topics to discuss and so many pieces of music to play in our program today. As time is against me, I shall go ahead . And behind all that commotion and excitement, or perhaps total madness might better reflect the atmosphere here, are these two gentlemen: Marek Jakubowicz and Michał Ruksza, or in other words the Unobtainum duo, who, exactly a year ago, Facebook reminded me of the date a day before yesterday , were here, in our Radio Malbork studio, and gave their first jazz concert in Trans Jazz Fair program. It was in October 2015, and now November 2016 has just started, I’m sitting in the studio and what’s before me? Two, newly released Unobtainum records. One is their official, second album and the other is the recording of the said, unforgettable concert Marek and Michał gave a year ago here. Today, they are my guests. Marek and Michał, welcome to our Radio Malbork studio again. Read the full interview...
